Last weekend was the Puerto Rican festival around here. Lots of parading in cars with big flags (though our informal survey showed people were using smaller flags this year than in the past.) It was also really hot, so while the boys were camping on Sunday, I went out and bought myself two new pairs of flipflops from KMart, then decided to go home and stay in airconditioning for the rest of the day.

Liam had his last rock climbing class this weekend as well and has been able to get really good at climbing

At the end of the trip everyone was so tired they slept the entire way home

We went to a performance by the Shaolin Chinese Kung Fu Troupe this evening. They warmed up by getting some volunteers from the audience to learn a few martial arts moves. The close-up pictures are pretty blurry–I was trying to use the zoom on my phone but must have gotten something wrong–but thought the attention Miles was getting was pretty cute. The Kung Fu Troupe does a lot of gymnastics and fancy moves with very dangerous looking weapons. They are even able to break sticks and very tough-looking pieces of metal over their heads. Miles and I went to the 59th Street beach today while Liam was at his movie-making class at the Hyde Park Art Center. Then we walked all around Promontory Point. When I told Miles we were going to a place where there were rocks he could climb and jump on he said “If it has rocks I can climb and jump on, it was made for me.” At the tip of the point there are quite a few concrete benches / breakers. Someone has painted eyes on the concrete breakers, all on the west side so the eyes are all…
