  • Nelson Atkins new addition

    The new addition glows at night and is really amazing to see. There was also a 19th century music concert. Afterwards we got bbq at gates. Really good.

  • Book-a-mania with the mayor and other popular characters

    I took Liam and Miles to Book-a-mania at the downtown Harold Washington library yesterday. As planned we met Erin with Hannah and Sophia, and Sarah and Charlie with Alexander and Thomas. More spontaneous meetings included Mayor Daley, Pat the Bunny, the King and Queen of Storybooks, Curious George and the man in the yellow hat!

    I’ve finally joined the rest of the world and now have a digital camera. My much-loved and much-used Canon AE-1, which I bought in 1985, has now joined my “interesting but not really functional camera” display in our house.

  • Indiana sand dunes

    We spent the night at mile and andrea’s place down in indiana with a lovely walk on the reopened sand dunes trail and a visit to a farm.

  • Halloween!

    Miles and classmate Maya before school today. Wands aren’t allowed at school (it’s not Hogwart’s Academy after all!) so Miles just wore the Harry Potter cloak and glasses.

  • Skittles sheds a skin

    Sunday was a big day for losing stuff. Liam went to feed Skittles and discovered that he/she had shed again. This is always a good thing to see, since it indicates the snake is healthy. Notice the skin from around Skittles’s head–it’s like a mask with eye and mouth holes. Cool!

  • Lost tooth

    Miles lost a front tooth yesterday. It wasn’t loose but fortunately it was a baby tooth so his permanent tooth underneath should be fine (but it may be a while before it grows in!) The two witnesses to the incident, Liam and Miles, were interviewed separately and their stories match. Apparently they were playing a game in which Liam would hit Miles in the back of the head with a pillow. This game was going great and both were enjoying it until Miles positioned his head too close to a door knob. Neither could recall why he did this. One…
