John and I took advantage of today’s extremely mild temperatures and went to a favorite place for a nice long walk – the Indiana Dunes. It was 57F / 15C, sunny and with a warm wind – could not have been more opposite of the December weather we usually get! Here’s John down to a t-shirt, and me applying sunscreen (and both wearing sunnies!)

There are poetry signs all around the Indiana Dunes area – this one was all the more intriguing because it’s fallen over, seemingly referencing the lost city of Lake Michigan in the poem.

We went on three trails today, one that goes up a bunch of stairs then over on the beach, another that winds through a wetlands area, and a third that leads from the wetlands back to the other side of the beach. Here’s the view from the peak of the third trail.

A bonus to winter is you can see the views easier without all those pesky leaves on trees!

The low winter sun hit these reeds’ fluffy tops and really lit them up nicely.

The lake was beautiful and made its lovely lapping sounds.

Lake Michigan is very high – and has been all summer. This piece of driftwood probably was way up on the beach and now is right at the water’s edge.

The beach area is really reduced – it has been much deeper in past years. Two nearby beaches were closed because of so much erosion.

Sometimes I don’t know that John is taking a picture of me walking in front of him but I should really improve my posture while walking! Anyway, much of the inland part of the trails today looked like this – lovely fall colors in the leaves on the ground, some conifers and lots of all kinds of trees.

Also, I missed including this in our Xmas post but here are Miles and I at the movies yesterday.

Great way to enjoy an unusually warm day in late December!
Impressive to have sunnies on in December and not for snow-glare purposes!
Hard to believe you had the sunnies, t-shirts & sunscreen out on 26th December, fab photos, ye look great 😎
