After dropping Liam and Robert off at Pier Gates, we drove to Powerscourt Gardens and met Phyllis, Isabelle, Issac and James for a really fun afternoon. We climbed to the top of the pepper pot. Wow, six out of eight eyes are closed! Methinks there was a plot…
Look how big this plant is! James is in there both for fun and for scale.

We found a fun grove of trees to play in. Here are Issac and James:

James and his pet pine cone. He has a brilliant imagination!

Oh those estate-owners, they really knew what they were doing. Beautiful!

Miles gave James a piggy back ride

It started to sprinkle and was getting close to dinner time so we said goodbye to Phyllis and co. and drove just across the road to our hotel, a short walk from Enniskerry. We walked into Enniskerry for dinner that night and also watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes back in the hotel room in preparation for the release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes later that week.
The next day we got up, had a really amazing breakfast in the hotel, and visited Powerscourt Waterfall, took a mountain bike ride, and then went to Glendalough. Here’s a view of the cemetery at Glendalough (more on my flickr site!)

John and Miles pause for a photo during our ascent

What a beautiful valley, it’s really hard to beat! Definitely a contender in the “best valley” category.

We stayed the night in the Wicklow Heather B&B, and also had a fantastic dinner and breakfast there. We’d highly recommend it! Then the next day, since we’d be heading south to meet Liam and Robert, we went a bit further to visit the original Avoca mill, where the famous Avoca woven goods are made. John and I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it turns out teenaged boys are not so into visits to weaving mills, go figure! This is what I refer to as the happy photo (the others have been sealed to protect the guilty.)

Very picturesque location and lovely lunch. I should have taken a photo of Miles after eating, he perked up quite a bit. Note to self: Miles can be bored and survive, and Miles can be hungry and survive, but it’s dangerous to bore him while he’s hungry.

Fantastic pictures of your visit to Wicklow-what a pleasant place.
Wicklow Heather B& B takes beating too as we have since found out for our selves-thanks for your gift of same.
