Visits to and from Chicago

So the fall semester is not over and I still have 2 big projects due… but on the bright side I finished my freelance cataloging project (yesterday) and one class (last week)! A catch-up blog post is in order, on a topic other than gardening and hair.

Back in October, we visited the Garfield Park Conservatory with the Kennys.

This “Granddad and Liam on bridge” shot was taken to contrast with an archival Cindy & the Kennymen photo from 3 years ago: http://cndkmen.wordpress.com/2008/09/23/kenny-visit/

Fast forward to last weekend, when we had a great trip to Kansas City for Thanksgiving! Highlights included a super yummy Thanksgiving dinner thanks to Nana, yoga, a visit to the always amazing Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, unforgettable barbecue from Oklahoma Joe’s combo BBQ shack / gas station, and seeing the new Scorcese movie “Hugo” on the Plaza. And that was just Thurs & Friday! On Saturday, the Kennymen all tried their hands (and every muscle in their bodies) at rock climbing at The View, the new community center in Grandview where Nana is a very active member. Lots of fun and tired muscles afterwards! Look out climbing wall in Chicago, they are determined to ring the bell at the top before winter’s done!

Miles on the climbing wall
Outside the Nelson-Atkins Museum. See the little white bags? They are candles for an annual lighted walk around the sculpture garden. Pretty! Thanks to Grandpa for the photo, and to Nana for posting it to FB

  1. Great picture at the Garfield Park Conservatory! Is the building still closed since the breakage from the hail storm? Nice to see a photo of Paddy and Kathleen. Also, I can see what Cindy meant when she said her hair was blonde for an interval.

  2. The conservatory has some rooms closed and others open, and they’re trying to raise money to fix all the damage from the hail storm last summer. We didn’t really see any damage though, because those rooms are closed and the broken panels aren’t too obvious from the outside. Their outdoor gardens were really lovely though, very inspiring!

  3. Wow, it’s scary how much Liam has grown! I wonder if in another 3 years Miles will be towering over Dad too!
