The Blue Mountains

The Sunday we were in Sydney, we went on an overnight trip to the Blue Mountains with Colette and Colman. Here are some pics from day one.

The Three Sisters rock formation, at Katoomba

This scenic viewpoint shows a good overview of the Blue Mountains, with famous formation the Three Sisters in the foreground. The mountains don’t really rise up as mountains usually do, but they are sort of carved into the land like canyons.

We took the trail (not from the point shown above, but another starting point Colette and Colman knew of) down to the bottom, across, and had a little rest and refreshment by a waterfall and pool.

It was a bit chilly when we stopped for lunch, but we were really hungry! Fortunately, John brought chocolate 🙂

Then we started climbing up a (different?) mountain. The climb up was really beautiful, and while the trail is certainly not easy, it’s really well made and a real pleasure to walk on.

Colman kept pointing up to the top of this waterfall and saying that we were going to walk right across the top of it. Well… he wasn’t kidding! That’s where the trail goes, all around, back and forth, winding across this area until you just walk on a path right across the top.
Colman and Colette, near the top of the waterfall. If there is a shocked look on Colette’s face it’s because she just saw a teenage girl on the fairly rigorous trail wearing high heels. Yikes!
Liam, at a resting point on the way up

Nice chair in the rock for Miles to have a little rest in!
Colette and Colman at our sunny resting spot. Sunnies were a must!
And this is the top of the waterfall. See how nice the trail is?

After this point, it was a fairly flat walk back up to the top. After more rest and some refreshing clementines, with Colette and I navigating we found our rental house in no time 🙂 and thanks to John, Colette, Liam and Miles all pushing numbers at once, opened the lockbox and got out the key. The house was really nice, and quite big, and we ordered in Indian food rather than venture out again. Sunset was mighty nice behind the house.

  1. Fabulous photos great description of your Australian trip made us feel we were there with you
    all-thanks Kathleen Paddy

  2. A beautiful place! Just a bit reminds me of the Ozarks (because it’s more about canyons than mountain peaks) and and of Starved Rock (because of the waterfalls).
