Tuesday we picked up Nana and Grandpa from Union Station after their train arrived early from Kansas City. Liam is a bit perplexed about why his 2.5 hour train journey from Urbana-Champaign is always at least an hour late, when a train coming all the way from Kansas City (with a starting point of LA) can arrive 30 minutes early. Amtrak, if you are reading this, please respond!
On Thursday, we took a walk on the 606. Nana’s recently broken foot is recovering very nicely! She had no problem walking the Ashland – Damen – Ashland stretch.

I’m realizing a lot of my interior photos are out of focus! Hopefully the good cheer shows through the blur. Here are Liam and all of the West family hanging out before Thanksgiving dinner.

Dinner was delightful, with smoked turkey, Charlie’s traditional oyster stuffing, green bean casserole, Brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cranberry sauce. Yum! And for dessert we had Sarah’s delicious chocolate pecan pie and Thanksgiving cake. What’s Thanksgiving cake? you may ask. It’s Aunty Kathleen’s cake that John brought all the way from Australia in February, but decorated for Thanksgiving! By coincidence, the recipe for icing included molasses, so the cake was already autumnal in season rather than wintery – snowy white. We may just have ourselves a new tradition. It was a really lovely cake. And it also served as a happy birthday cake – it is Beatriz’s birthday next door so I brought them some to celebrate. Thank you Kathleen, your cake is making a lot of people here happy!

After such good company and good food, Liam and Miles needed to stretch out with their laptops. Thanks, all, for sharing Thanksgiving with us!

Such a nice Thanksgiving! We enjoyed walking on the 606 trail and dinner was delicious. We all enjoyed the cake, which was modified to fit Thanksgiving.
