Springfield, IL

As mentioned, we drove to Springfield on Thursday to take Miles to the Illinois History Expo — the “state” history fair event. Friday Night Lights fans will appreciate the great honor in “making it to state”! Miles showed his video to the judges and received a very nice round of applause afterwards — I still enjoy watching the video too. We also got to see some other students’ history fair works, and were quite impressed by the quality of entries.

We then went to lunch at the Feed Store, located right across from the old capitolĀ building (below.) We went inside and had a look, and saw the courtroom where Abraham Lincoln practiced law! A guide said that he won 12 cases and lost 12 there. Lovely redbud trees were in bloom, they nicely pick up the color on the cupola.

The Feed Store is located in one of the storefronts you can see here, across from the old capitol.

P1000780We haven’t heard anything about awards but agree it was great to be chosen to go to state! Hoping that the judges’ evaluations make it back to Newberry and to Miles, so he can get some feedback, but it was good to see Springfield and a lot of great work about events in history!
