Skiing in Telluride

After getting adjusted to the altitude and reminding ourselves how to ski, we all had a great time skiing in Telluride. The mountain is really varied with a lot of beautiful green and blue (beginner and intermediate) slopes even way high up the mountain where it’s quieter and the views are amazing.
Once we figured out how to use the funicular from our apartment to the slopes, we were really quite the pros at skiing in and out. Here are some photos showing how we would end a day of skiing. First, we’d ski down a particular run, the Lower Village Bypass (green or beginner) to this spot:

Then, using the secret code only available to people staying in the Great Bear Lodge, we’d call the funicular. It would show up rather magically, like a little version of elevator in Charlie and Great Glass Elevator.

About 8 people can squeeze into the funicular and shut the door, choosing the destination with an elevator button, and away it goes.

There’s a run up there that goes along the boundary of the park, called “See Forever.” It’s a blue (intermediate) and not difficult to ski, but it can be challenging to both ski it and stop from taking in the incredible view, all the way to Utah

  1. Wow that all looks beautiful! Is so nice when intermediate runs are in quiet areas and have pretty views. Your See Forever run and comment about stopping to take in the view reminds me of two of our favourite runs… Outer limits in Australia and Queenstown Return in NZ… Both are on the boundary of the park with stunning views. Pics made Colman jealous by the way!

  2. Fab pictures of skiing slopes and whole layout-must be so exciting for skiing fraternity.

  3. Telluride is gorgeous! I’m glad you took a photo of the funicular. The word starts with “fun,” which seems appropriate. Great pictures of all of you!

  4. Wow, beautiful pictures! Makes me miss Color-ado a lot. Glad you had a great time, and thanks for sharing all of the great pictures!

  5. Thanks, all, yes it’s really a pretty place. And the fun-icular is definitely a whole lot of fun!
