More on the Nana and Grandpa moving front! Their super nice neighbors Bonnie and Eddie put up this sign in the front yard, letting Nana and Grandpa knowing how much they will be missed!

I had the chance to be at the lakefront near Navy Pier last week, and noticed that the nice thing about this time of year is that sunrise isn’t too early and you can really see the sun hitting the city as it rises without getting up at, oh, 5am like one would have to in summer. This view really shows the buildings along the lakefront basking in the warm glow.
The lake was silvery and beautiful too. As was the sun peeking up over Navy Pier.
Later, I noticed the same thing in Humboldt Park, the sun waking up the trees on a morning with frost on the grass. Second photo shows our American Elm turning yellow for fall.
A few food comments – we went to a new (to us) grocery store and found it to have quite a bounty of good food! The opposite kind of shopping experience is a farmers market I went to recently and bought fresh garlic and a decorative item called “pumpkins on a stick.” Both were a lot to carry home! At the recommendation of the farmer, I cleaned and froze the ginger, and we are using it as needed out of the freezer. It should last us at least 6 months. I’ve never had ginger this fresh before, and it is really good.
We’re pretty much working from home all the time, but we did get to go see the view from John’s office on Friday. First the cliff face of Michigan Avenue, then note that the el looks anything but elevated from this height! And third, check out that gorgeous Carbon and Carbide building in the late afternoon sun!
And last, John was traveling and had the always exciting pleasure of flying into Chicago at night. His flight, despite being from California, did the loop where it passes O’Hare, turns around over the lake, then comes back in to land from the east. In doing this, they flew right over Humboldt Park. I’ve outlined it on the second map (just like how I need the dots connected to be able to see constellations in the night sky!)

Great light filled pictures there! And how lovely of Herb and Mary’s neighbours to put that sign up!!
Lovely photos there! I’ve never seen ginger root attached to the stem of the plant. Nice that you can freeze the ginger root and use it over a long time. So interesting to see the various forms plant life can take. Beautiful photos of the morning light on the Chicago skyline! And yes, it was so nice that our neighbors put that sign in our yard!
So interesting about the pumpkins on a stick! They’re really cool looking. And amazing views from John’s windows and the Chicago sky. So nice of the neighbors to put up that sign. I know they’ll be missed. We’re looking forward to having them closer to us!
