Readers have asked about the image in our new blog header. It’s from a sculpture I saw in Vail during my various errand runs around the village. It’s really large and impressive, I think symbolizing clouds. I didn’t take a pic of the whole thing but here’s the full frame.

Day 2: paving stones and posts were installed. Those posts at the back are for the new fencing piece and our hammock!

Back yard project after day one: excavation! This is terrifying…

Thought I’d post a spring break update… it’s an unusual one with the boys out of town to warmer places and John and I recovering back in Chicago. Well I’m not recovering but helping with the recovery! Liam left last Sunday morning for a building trip to Birmingham, Alabama, with his school’s Habitat for Humanity club. They took a very nice coach bus there, which took about 11 hours from Chicago. Their first day was a day off, and Tuesday they started work. Liam worked on flooring, which he said was more mentally than physically challenging! Meanwhile, Miles headed to Florida…

For John’s birthday I organized a 2 hour stretch limo trip for him through the mountains! Ok John’s office organized it but the rest is true. And the driver told john he has a very cute prom date 🙂 view out window with minibar in foreground below.

By the time I got to vail, john already had the dressing changed on his recuperating knee and shortly after ditched the hospital gown and got dressed in his outside world clothes. He’s doing great in crutches and is adhering to the exercise regimen very well!

Miles finished his history fair project over the weekend and brought it to school this morning. Really nice job, miles! Outstanding use of primary sources!

I was in Seattle for work and came across the original Starbucks store. I’m not certain if they’ve renovated it since it opened in 1971, but it looks like it was a pretty nice place from day 1 (wish more were like this)
