Liam and Miles are at sleepaway camp in Wisconsin for a week. Here they are before getting on the bus (a coach takes them to camp and back again, we meet them at a drop off spot in Chicago on Saturday) This is Miles's first time going to sleepaway camp, and he was very excited about going. Here we see three dads enjoying (sleeping through) fathers day at the natural disastersexhibit at the Field Museum. Actually they were sleeping in one of the halls of mammal dioramas, we  passed by them while walking from the excellent natural disasters exhibit to the also very interesting photos of the artic sea floor exhibit. These three men received as much attention as many of the exhibits in this area of the Field–several people were standing around taking pictures of them! So funny that they were all this tired at the same time.

Miles's first grade class won a popcorn party and extra recess. I brought out the school's popcorn popper last Friday and we popped popcorn on the playground. Aside from a brief shower that caused us to unplug the popper and wheel it in very quickly, the event was smooth and a lot of fun! Here's Miles with his teacher Mrs Yamanaka and classmate Shelby.

We put in a few evergreens and ferns. Also we've been very happy to see most of the perennials we planted last year come back even stronger!

During an intense rainstorm tonight, a river formed in our back yard. I didn't want to get WET so I took this photo from an upstairs window, and you can't really see the full glory of this river, which even had a current that looked stronger than the Rio Grande. See the blue line I drew on the photo that shows the course and direction of the river. This river is really a tributary of the big river that our alley can become. Typepad has made some changes and I can't figure out how to do the simplest things, like move pictures around on a post OR delete a picture on a post. So I appreciate your patience, there are bound to be some wacky posts ahead of us while I figure it out! The garage across the alley from our back yard has been built. It looks great! On the same day, leaves appeared on our tree and the city delivered us a new recycling bin that we didn't even ask for. When it rains, it pours.
