One month, one year

It’s surprising looking at our last post from less than a month ago that everything was covered in snow! The snow all melted a few weeks ago now, and we have had some really lovely spring days – quite a bonus in Chicago in March! It’s also surprising I guess (?) that it’s been a year since we got the first stay at home request then order to prevent Covid spread. Having said that, I think you’ll find this post to be filled with quite the usual – trips to the Indiana Dunes, walks around the neighborhood, and some Liam and Miles updates!

John and I had a couple of really nice trips to the Indiana Dunes in the last month. We went to an old favorite the Cowles Bog walk, and then a newer (to us) place, a walk in the Indiana Dunes State Park. First, a few pics on a beautiful day from Cowles Bog.

Just last weekend we went to the Indiana Dunes State Park and did walk #10 – straight east along the lake front then inland, behind the dune bowls, along a woodsy trail back. There’s such variety there, with all the different ecosystems so close together. Whenever we go there even for a few hours it feels like a great getaway. Having said that we thought the name Paradise Valley was possibly overstating it a bit!

Back in Chicago, Scabby the Rat, a giant inflatable rat that unions will bring out to highlight hiring of non-union labor on job sites, was spotted on Western recently.

Water birds including mallard and wood ducks and seagulls, so not just the hardy Canadian Geese, are back in the water at Humboldt Park.

Under the heading of colorful things, the painted brick outside West Town Bakery is pretty nice. And I guess I learned how to use filters while chatting with Maddie on messenger?

No pics of this but Liam and I got a chance to work together today! He texted asking if I knew how to find a product data sheet for a Valspar industrial product, and I was able to find it! There was a question about the pH level it could tolerate. Hope the document helped, Liam! I do have pics of some Miles news. First, I think everyone knows, but he got his first Covid vaccine! Here he is with his roommate.

They also have a new pet in the house – a dog named Toby, short for Toblerone. Miles and Toby are great buddies.

Speaking of animals, today we saw a possum hiding in a little hole at the base of a tree in Humboldt Park! We also saw some bunnies – lots of creatures including us are coming out again!

And there’s Roux!

Our crocuses are blooming and I think they multiplied since last year.

Will sign off with a cake in a bakery window along Division 🙂
