Murals, meals, music and cicadas

Augusta has been under construction lately, so I have been cycling down Hubbard to get to the lake. There’s a stretch with very cool murals on the railroad embankment – it was all part of a mural project that covers several blocks.

And as promised, here are some photos of our meals made with the vegetables from the farmer’s market as seen in last week’s post. This pasta and tomato dish is called “Tomato Party,” and it was quite a party indeed. Looking forward to trying that one later in the month when tomatoes are even more in season!

Here we have yellow squash with basil and mozarella, and tomato party again (leftovers night!)

And this was cold udon noodles with mango, Italian eggplant and basil. Delicious!

On Monday, Sarah and I went to see a concert at Millennium Park. An English band called This is the Kit opened and were very enjoyable. They play folk-ish music, which made the inclusion of 3 saxophone players seem a bit curious – until the lead singer introduced them as the Sad Sax and they were joining for the occasion of This is the Kit being in Chicago. The Sad Sax are from Wisconsin.

Aimee Mann gave an amazing performance.

And the Pritzker Pavilion couldn’t help but be it’s stunning self as usual.

When the Brennans were here we heard a lot of cicadas but never saw one because you know how it goes, there’s never a dead cicada around when you’re looking for one, and the living ones are busy buzzing up high in the trees. Fortunately, it wasn’t long before I came across one. Here you go, with my (yikes, not well taken care of, no hand model career for me!) hands in for scale.

And the talk last week was all about Mars being very close to Earth, and the blood moon eclipsing across the world, but sometimes isn’t it pretty amazing when the sky blushes?
