Miles did an assignment this week: choose a forest animal and write about why it would not make a good pet. He chose a lion and did a very good job on his paper! Oddly enough, this assignment coincided with a news item in Chicago this week– a cougar was seen roaming around and generally freaking people out about 3 miles north of where we live, and the police had a confrontation with it and shot it dead yesterday. So it's a very timely essay as well, while Chicago is thinking how big cats aren't really good as pets.

Miles, I kind of feel the same way about Maya. She may hurt you (though she’s only playing when she jumps up at people!). It does cost a lot of money to feed her! She does need a lot of space! and she is very hard to tame (though she still thinks she’s a puppy). great essay, Miles!
That’s a nice essay, Miles. You have pointed out a lot of good reasons why a lion would not make a good pet.
Miles,
Your essay about lions is terrific! You know so many things: greek gods, harry potter stuff, how to play charades and now important facts about lions! Go Miles!
I think that Maya jumping on me is actually a bit of fun. In a lot of ways Maya and a lion are the same! (laughing) Thanks for the compliments, everyone!
PS I forgot everything I knew about the Greek gods. Ha ha ha! Sarcasm!
