The time between Thanksgiving and Miles arriving for Christmas went very quickly! Miles had a week to spend here before heading to Austin, Texas, so we decided to go straight from picking him up at the airport to Sawyer. Coffee and breakfast sandwiches packed, it all went to plan and we were in Michigan around 8:30am!

As you all are very aware, there are a couple of crowd favorites in Sawyer. First, the hot tub! Miles took it up a notch by setting up a table for coffee and a book.

And we enjoyed another crowd favorite, the lake! Some ice formations were starting to form that were very cool.

We’d had a big snowfall right after Thanksgiving but a lot of it had evaporated, especially in areas with direct sunlight. There was still some snow in the woods though.

We also played mancala, with new (to us!) rules!

We saw a lovely, bright sunset over Gary.

On Sunday evening we went to dinner at a brewery called River St Joe, then to the Fernwood botanical garden to see their lights display. It was really nice!

On Monday Miles worked remotely and stayed back while John and I walked to sunset at the beach. There was a strip of light at the horizon but oddly no sun crossed through there – maybe the clouds were thicker than they looked. And also oddly, a pumpkin that had been totally encased in ice and well up on the beach was floating in the water. Very strange sight!

Later on Monday, we went to the red arrow road house for their rib night, and it was a special one, with Santa there!

We drove back to Chicago on Tuesday morning, with more coffee and breakfast sandwiches in the car!

Looks like some well-spent wintery days!
Glad Miles enjoyed his first visit to Sawyes particularly the hot tub.
Still some pretty scenes there despite the wintry weather.
