Last day of summer camp

With tomorrow being the fall equinox in the northern hemisphere (happy vernal equinox to readers down under!) it seemed a good time to post photos from Liam’s last day of work as a camp counselor and Miles’s last day at summer camp. These photos were taken just a few days before we left for the river trip so I never had a chance to post them. Summer camp at Lincoln Park Cultural Center finishes off with a big show, featuring performance by the different age groups.

Miles’s group performing their first dance of the show. Miles is in the back row, wearing a white shirt and plaid shorts, in front of the steps.

Liam worked with the 6 and 7 year olds, and here they are dancing. He is sitting in front of them, doing hand movements (not really visible in this pic) to help them remember their moves. So cute!

A big part of a rec leader’s job, ummm probably the biggest part, is keeping track of all the kids. Parents sign their kids in and out on the sheet that Liam is holding out. The parents of his kids were very complimentary about him when they met me!

Dance the afternoon away, Miles!

The staff performance is always elaborate, top secret, and a lot of fun. During the rest of the show I noticed that the staff seemed a bit scruffy, ripped and spattered in blood… but did not know that was going to all come together in a performance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller!

Liam’s the zombie in the third row, white t-shirt and fingers over his eyes.

It’s close to midnight…

Sam, with the red leather jacket on, played the Michael Jackson character and as usual did a great job and looked like she was having a great time!

Image

At the end of the song there was a big poof of something smoky… scary!

Then everybody got up and danced and hugged and said their good-byes until next summer. Goal for next summer: Miles wants to be a junior counselor!

  1. Looks like they both had a fun time. That’s great Liam got those compliments, and looks like Miles learned some new dance moves! It’s fun that he wants to be a camp counselor next year too.
