Hello! Sorry for the long break between KC part 1 and 2. Our last couple of days we continued to have nice visits, eat good food, and take in the KC cultural scene. Miles joined us on Friday night and we went for breakfast at Gratitude Cafe and then visited a favorite place, the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. Here we are outside the modern wing, by the Andy Goldsworthy sculpture Walking Wall. Skeptics may agree with John that it looks an awful lot like a wall in the west of Ireland, but this one is art. It’s moving all across the museum grounds which would be very cool to observe over time.

We also went to the Kemper Museum of Modern Art which is also always a great place to visit. I really liked these feet that were made of a very thing paper material.

Our hotel was very close to the main branch of the KC Public Library, which is in a former bank building. They store the film in the old vault. Very like our Walgreens with its vitamin vault!

I liked this sticker encouraging hand washing.

Here we are inside the Nelson-Atkins museum.

And here’s the Walking Wall without people.

Kansas City is along the route that Lewis and Clark took from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Portland, Oregan. This mural commemorates the expedition, and we got Miles in there in honor of his upcoming expedition off to college at Lewis and Clark!

The mural was really wide and the picture above, while nicely including Miles, excludes Lewis and Clark themselves. Here’s a panorama

Our hotel was in a building that historically housed a very well known hotel and restaurant, the Savoy. There’s a booth in there that was known as the Presidential Booth which, according to the bartender and the sign on the wall, was President Harry Truman’s favorite. We liked it too!

Thanks for your hospitality, KC, we had a great time!
That’s a huge mural!
