Innovations in coffee and muffins

Last week Danielle and Chris visited from Minneapolis which was huge fun for all of us. We failed to get any photos of them 🙁 but we had a great time! However I do have photos of two things they inspired us to do: try airpresso coffee and bake our own English muffins!

Here’s John making airpresso coffee. It’s a little bit like a French press but with less brewing time, a paper filter, and more pressure. Oh, and less water / more coffee. So the result is pretty espresso-like, which you can then drink as espresso or add water for an Americano, or milk, or whatever.

This whole demo looks like a stress test on an Ikea glass (passed!) but what we really like is that it seems to be a solution to our long quest for an espresso maker that doesn’t cost a fortune and take up a lot of counter space.

So in addition to introducing us to airpresso coffee, Danielle also told us about how she makes homemade English muffins. Intriguing! She uses the recipe from the cookbook “The Bread Bible.” I managed to do a passable job of making a batch on the first try — the tricky part is working with very sticky dough.

  1. So much interesting activity taking place in your kitchen! I also noticed the world map on the wall, which has to be the version from the Southern Hemisphere, maybe Australia in particular.

  2. Yes, our map is pro-Southern Hemisphere! Colette got it for us when we were in Australia last year. Sometimes it’s really hard to find countries on it (like the other day when I was trying to show Miles where Jordan is) but the conversation value makes up for it.
