John had a work trip to Cancun the first week of February and then is going on another to San Diego next week, so we packed our warmest clothes to spend this week in Michigan. We’d seen the wintery shoreline in January so thought we knew what to expect, but like all coasts it changes so much with different conditions in light, snow, and the frequent melting and refreezing of lake water into ice.
Sunset over a whole lot of ice formations Turn 180 degrees from that sunset and an almost full moon was rising! We have been tracking the point that the sun disappears in winter and it’s well to the southwest. It’s moved back west already, as we get further from the winter solstice. Looking north at sunset, the ice is shimmery and iridescent Ok, so this is sunrise, which is happening out of sight and behind the photographer, but the wrap around color is presentThere’s a river in here under the ice, just breaking through at the center. Also taken at sunrise.John at sunset beside what we think looks like a frozen tide pool or rock poolWhen cloudy the ice is more gray and brown. We went on a new (to me) walk in the dunesDune walk grassesIt’s not all taking walks and photos here though, we are working! Here’s my new desk, thanks to Liam who got a new dining table and gave me this. Thanks, Liam!
Gorgeous sunsets and a very cool desk and chair!
