Granada

Wrapping up an amazing 5 days in Granada, here are some highlights.

  1. Our hosts: Miles and Zoe. We’re wow’d by their life here, speaking Spanish, teaching and tutoring, embedded in a great friend group, and super knowledgeable about all things Granada!

2. The Alhambra. We stayed in the same street that Miles and Zoe live on, right across from the Alhambra. So we saw the massive fortress above us throughout our stay, and we visited the extensive grounds one day. We agreed that the Palace Nazaries is the most amazing building we’ve ever been in.

3. Flamenco. Miles got us tickets to a flamenco performance in a cave, in the neighborhood where flamenco was born. The show was intimate and very powerful.

4. Pomegranates. Granada and pomegranate vine from the same word and the city has pomegranate imagery everywhere. Finding pomegranates is a fun game while walking through the city.

5. Hammam baths. Best indoor baths we’ve been to – traditional moorish architecture for a bathhouse, which we verified by having visited the (not currently in use) baths at the Alhambra and the historic el banuelo near where we stayed.) the staff forgot to get us out so we soaked in various pools for 3 hours! Warm stones for sitting and lying on were a really nice feature.

6. The city has only 300,000 people but is so dense and urban it has a really great buzz! So many people out walking all day, especially in the evening through late (to us!) night. And the Christmas lights are really lovely!

I have more to add but in the spirit of sharing what’s here, will stop here for now!
