We’re spending a couple of very lazy days at Hecata Beach, just north of Florence, Oregon. First, a look at our house from the ‘street’, the back porch that overlooks the ocean, and a panoramic view.
There is a large band of greenery (heather?) between us and the dunes that line the beach. We found a path through the greenery, and were surprised to see it involved going through a carefully maintained tunnel of low trees! I have never taken a tunnel to the beach before.
This morning was foggy but really beautiful at the beach. Readers will note many similarities to Portmarnock!
The photo above shows the confluence of the Sieuslaw River (left) and the Pacific Ocean. A waiter in town told us it is pronounced sigh-you-slaw.
After our walk we had some reading time. Me: solar bones by Mike McCormack (finished this later in the day and oh wow! So good! Ask me more if you are interested! John: Kudos by Rachel Cusk, Miles: In the time of the butterflies by Julia Alvarez (summer assignment for school).
Then we went to a Hawaiian / pacific fusion restaurant for lunch and dropped miles back at the house to read more. We went on to the hecata head lighthouse.
There is a 1930s bridge near there that reminded us of the bixby bridge in big sur California.
The little cove by the lighthouse was also delightful.
We wrapped up the day with dinner in Florence (another wonderful meal!) and a stroll around town, including the photo below of another 1930s bridge, this one over the Sieuslaw River.
and then back to our place to catch sunset over the Pacific. Good night!
Great beach house and interesting to see the coastal area north of California which I’ve never really thought about before!! Enjoy the rest of your stay! (And always up for good book recommendations)!
Fitted in a lot in what looks like a very interesting trip.
Love the photos particularly the lighthouse and tree tunnel to the beach.
Thanks! We found out the tree tunnels are called Hobbit Holes and they are a noted feature in the area! Very charming.
HI John Cindy & Miles, We are just catching up on your blog – Well done on your Triatholan Cindy – that was really hard but you made it look easy! and really good timing to fit in your trip to Oregan and Florence.
