Euro 2016

So this year I was able to turn my annual Cannes trip into a bigger “Euro” tour, visiting Dublin along the way, and catching some of the Euro 2016 football matches.

Cannes as always was delightful, I always forget how hilly and mountainous it is, and while the conference itself is pretty exhausting, there are worse places in the world to be exhausted in.  The food is great (lots of tuna, croissants and rose wine) and the towns delightful.  This is a picture of the South of France while flying into Nice (about 45 minutes away from Cannes itself.

Highlight of the Cannes conference for FCB was winning 15 Lions, which probably puts us firmly in the top 10 US agencies for a second year in a row!  Here’s a picture of the team getting their award for the “Giant Stroller” campaign.

Here’s the link to the winning video:  Baby Stroller Test Drive

Also at Cannes were lots of celebrity pitches for various media platforms and agencies, here’s Rob Delaney, Rashida Jones and Kegan-Michael Key

After Cannes it was off to Dublin, where I got to experience all the wailing and gnashing of teeth about Brexit, but more importantly got to catch up one evening with Nan (who took the train up to Dublin) where we had a lovely evening, having dinner and drinking wine (though to be fair I got tired quickly, it’s bad when you have to go to bed earlier than your 90 year old grandmother).

Other highlights included seeing Phyllis’s new house (that’s her driveway above) and also catching the Ireland vs France game at Barry’s where everyone really got in the mood.

Though probably the most exciting match was watching long shots Iceland beat England 2-1, it really was a bad week for England.

  1. All great pictures, John: the photo from the airplane, at the conference in Cannes, and with your family in Dublin.

  2. Great weekend had by all here in Dublin.
Cannes looks well too and great result for FCB.
