Three years ago Cindy brought Liam down to the university of Illinois Engineering Open House to give Liam a taste of what engineering would be like. This year, Liam was one of the demonstrators so we decided to visit Liam and see how he was doing.
First we brought Liam out to lunch at Black Dog BBQ restaurant for lunch
Then we brought Liam to his demo table, only to discover he was demoing super conducting magnets that levitate!!
There were lots of other demos to, metals with memory, rocket launches and DNA extraction, as well as the science of coffee, beer and food, and lots of opportunities to wander around the university.
All in all a really nice day and a great opportunity to see Liam demonstrating some of the cool things he is learning about!

Wonderful pictures of all of you! Such a nice day to visit Liam on campus and watch him levitate super-conducting magnets. Miles seems to be enthusiastic about lunch at the Black Dog BBQ. Looks like so much fun!
Good you all could get down to Liam’s UNI and get a chance to see what Liam is working at.
Every one looks great.
Looks like fun. Black Dog BBQ seems like an odd idea to us as the Black Dog Institute here helps people with depression!
Thanks, all! Yeah, now that you mention it Black Dog seems to have some really different meanings. We also have a Black Dog Gelato here in Chicago. We were all in quite good spirits after the BBQ (it’s really good!)
That’s great to see Liam being so into his course and University – Seems like your well over the jet lag John:)
Thanks Phyllis, yes finally over jetlag! A good night’s sleep never felt so good!\
