Dublin adventures days 1 & 2

We arrived in Dublin to some really refreshing temperatures in the mid 60s, much more comfortable than the 90s in Italy (and for what it’s worth, also back in Chicago!) Rory had found the clay that I left him in portmarnock and we set out to play right away.

A bit later, we took a walk to the high rock at the sea, via Paddy’s Field.

Quick bit of exercise!
In Paddy’s field, some areas are mown and others have been left to grow tall grasses. No-mow is a very nice trend in Ireland, to encourage native flowers and grasses and to benefit pollinators. Rory noted that everything in Ireland is about the bees!
Paddy and Kathleen’s garden, looking great as always and with some very nice no-mow rectangles

After an excellent nights sleep at Barry and Frankie’s house, on Thursday morning a group of us (Colette and Rory, Phyllis, Issac and James, and John and I) went on a walk at Howth and somehow headed down a path that we don’t normally take. We came across huge letters in white stone that spell out EIRE 6, a marker used in WW2 to be sure that approaching aircraft knew they were over neutral Ireland. There’s an explanatory sign too.

I couldn’t get the full word in the frame!
These two just might have been talking about the lord of the rings

Once we got back to howth village, our party split to do different things in the afternoon. John and I went for a dip at portmarnock, where the tide was going out but we managed to get in. Later we visited our friends maiphil and ciaran, it was great meeting them!

Will cover our last two days in Dublin in a separate post!

  1. Great pictures and memories of a pleasant trip enjoyed by all. Weather was pretty kind too.

  2. The idea of no-mow is great! Native grasses are so beautiful.
I wish I could have gotten in on the possible discussion about The Lord of the Rings! Do they have versions for children?
An outgoing tide sure does leave a wide beach!
