confessions

Over the 4 day weekend Liam and Miles had various fun times and not so fun times together. After one game-gone-wrong on Monday, I asked them to each write a paragraph about why they should not play the game that caused such problems. Here’s Miles’s response:

Emit

Liam refused to do the assignment and then didn’t talk to me for an hour.

On the subject of confessions, Miles and I have had some discussions about FALSE confessions lately. He told me that he has, twice in his life, confessed to something he didn’t do to save the group, and that it has worked out well. The most recent was in school this week–Mrs Yamanaka said that if she didn’t find out who shoved Clay’s chocolate milk carton inside his desk the class would miss their field trip to see a theatrical performance of James and the Giant Peach on Friday. Silence. Miles, afraid they would miss the field trip, raised his hand and said he did it. I don’t think she believed him but she told him that he had to clean it up. Clay asked him if he did it and he whispered “no.” We had a very long discussion about why making a false confession is not a good idea, even if it worked out ok this time.

On a side note, the things a 1st grade teacher has to deal with! Thank you Mrs Yamanaka!

  1. Oh my, Miles – a diplomat in the making!
(and as for his confession…did he write he sat on Liam’s hat?)

  2. I should have included a translation–“I admit that I sat on Liam’s head. We were playing a bad game. It was a bit too wild. I am sorry for sitting on it.”

  3. Too funny! How guilty would the kid who did shove Clays milk in his desk have felt watching Miles clean it up!
