Merry Christmas! It’s a little over an hour left in Central time so with any luck I’ll get this posted on Christmas itself 🙂 We had a lovely Christmas today with a leisurely morning and then a zoom with Nana and Grandpa in KC and Debbie, Jeff and Maddie in Chicago. As usual, there’s always someone missing from a zoom photo, busy day!

John, Miles and I went out for a quick walk at Boston Hill and Liam and Kat stayed back and made some really delicious potato pancakes that we enjoyed when we got back. Then we had a round the world zoom with Colette, Colman and Rory in Sydney, Paddy and Kathleen, Barry and Frankie, and Phyllis, Paul, Isabelle, Isaac and James in Dublin.

After all the zooms, John and I decided to make a fourth and final attempt on the Dragonfly Trail at Fort Bayard. Spoiler alert… success! We met a bird watcher / hiker / former teacher on the trail who was a real font of knowledge about the whole area and who gave us the specific directions to the see the petraglyphs that we’ve been lacking on previous attempts. He even hiked in to show us where they are located. Then he disappeared in the woods, a real Christmas desert mirage! The last photo below is just of the lichen on the rocks, the others show the petraglyphs. (BTW I just looked up petraglyph – it’s a rock carving associated with prehistoric peoples)
The views around Fort Bayard on the final stretch were really nice too. The last photo below shows both a daytime moon in the sky and a really large current mining operation on the horizon.
After getting home from our walk, we prepped dinner that we’d ordered from Diane’s and sat down for quite a feast. Great dinner, Diane & Co! Merry Christmas to all!

Looks like a very nice relaxing Christmas day in New Mexico.. I love the carvings…similar to the ones around Newgrange too…very interesting. Enjoy your time there..very special..Great Skype pictures…lovely to chat yesterday X
We enjoyed our Zoom chat yesterday, and are happy to see the photos from your Zoom chat with family in Ireland and Australia as well! Interesting rocks and petraglyphs. I wonder who drew on the rocks–was it adults or children? Looks like you had a delicious Christmas dinner!
