Christmas concerts!

Readers who haven’t heard Maddie play piano or sing are in for quite a treat! We were invited to her piano concert and choir Christmas show last weekend, and she really did a great job!

Saturday was the piano recital at a college chapel in Naperville.

Maddie played three songs, and I got video of Caravan (one of my favorites due to a Duke Ellington version we used to have on cassette that we really liked!)

Here she is with her friends from piano and her BFF (as the friend’s mom told me) from the neighborhood and school at the far right.

This was taken to send to Miles, who was deep in final exam prep in Portland at the time.

Sunday John, Liam and I all went out to hear Maddie’s choir concert. Maddie auditioned for the Young Naperville Singers, the local children’s choir, and got in last summer – which is a very big accomplishment! She’s in the youngest group of singers, the Primo group. It’s like swim lessons, the different age groups have (music related) names. Nana and Grandpa and also Grammy (Jeff’s mom) came into town for the week as well so we all went out for brunch together.

For the last song of the concert all groups came up to the stage and also stretched all around the sides. They each had little electronic candles and turned them on, then the lights dimmed, and we had a really lovely last song. Well done, Maddie and everyone!

Maddie also met Santa at the dentist last week!

And switching gears a bit but wow what a sunset I saw from my work building one evening (4:15pm-ish…) this week.

And speaking of sunsets and sunrises, Miles flew overnight Tuesday night and arrived in Chicago Wednesday morning. After a lot of sleep on Wednesday, he woke up and went out to dinner at Mott Street with John and Dylan. I was at my book club but had a good chance today to catch up with Miles.
