August in Chicago

There’s quite a bit to report on from August! We’ve already posted photos of Finland (first week of August) and the air and water show (weekend in mid-August), so now I’m going to go back to the second week of the month and go right through to Sept 1 for thematic reasons – skipping over the air and water show.

Right after Finland, I had the mole removal procedure, which all readers have heard a lot about! Sarah was so amazing on the day of the procedure, coming over with an Ottolenghi eggplant parmesan and a salad – doubly meaningful because it was standing in for a visit to an Ottolenghi restaurant in London that was cancelled due to our change in vacation plans. We had a lovely meal in the shade in our backyard. Thank you Sarah!!!

Later that week, Liam came over for dinner and. we went for an evening walk at Northerly Island. Really beautiful!

John has been inspired by fruit desserts we had in Finland and made a peach cobbler, with peaches from our local Amish food store. Delicious! This really hit the spot after our walk at Northerly Island!

Filling in the month were some snapshots here and there that nicely tell about some small moments!

A real highlight of August was a visit from Miles! He was back for a week, after his internship and before taking on new adventures. We had a really great visit with him, had some good dinners with the party of 6 (see second photo below with Liam, Bronwyn and Dylan), and met up with Debbie, Maddie, Mary and Herb at the Morton Arboretum!

Last week we went downtown to see the last movie in the Millennium Park film series Everything Everywhere All At Once, which was really rewarding as a second viewing for those of us in the group who saw it already. We met Jeanne and Geoff, and Sarah and Charlie there. It was a beautiful night and we took the ebike down and parked it in John’s office bike room (middle photo below). Thanks, Sarah for the photos!

Although August had many delightful moments, I definitely missed swimming for the 3 weeks between the original procedure and then 2 weeks post stitches. I got back in the pool on Aug 30 (but no photos) and back in the lake on Sept 1 for a really lovely early morning swim with Sarah. The water was really calm. at Ohio beach, perfect for swimming. Great to be back in the water!
