We went to Indiana to pick some apples, eggplant, and a pumpkin today. We went with the Groves and some friends and it was a lovely day. After a week of rain the weather cleared up and it was one of those perfect fall days, as one native of Indiana put it "the best time of year to live in Indiana."
I just love industrial buildings. This one had a lot of potential but I just couldn't find the right angle.
Dad, these are for you, since I know how much you like Red Delicious apples!
Oriental eggplant. Aubergine, for Irish readers!
We picked corn, though I don't think it was on the official list of vegetables to pick. It was there, we picked some.
That reminds me of when we were little and went to pick apples at…was it Stevenson’s Apple Orchard?…and went home and bake apple pies. Well, I think Mom did the baking, but I like to think we helped 🙂
Lovely Autumn setting-Apple trees laiden with fruit always look well.
Industrial building reminds me of our former Gas Works in Ringsend, Dublin-a building with great character and history of course.
I do (did? is it gone?) love the gas works in Ringsend–I used to ride by it on my bike on the way to DataPage!
Debbie–I hope we helped Mom with the peeling. I just peeled enough apples for 2 apple crisps last night and I could have used some help! I’m sure I will get help eating dessert tonight, though 🙂
I loved the apple-picking excursions! We had a tendency to get carried away and bring home more apples than we needed. Yes, the peeling and the cutting of the apples was quite labor-intensive, and I never was sure if the apple pie was quite worth all the work. But the picking sure was fun! ~ Mom
