Alassio

On the way to visit my friends in Milan, I stopped off in Alassio, Italy, where my colleague Cary Pierce and her husband have a holiday home that’s been in their family for generations. Its were all the busy folks from Milan go to during the summer to escape the heat.

On the train there, I spotted an very Italian version of Miles!

Very similar, except I suspect he’s more into expensive hair product and timepieces than Miles!

This is the view from Cary and Alberto’s patio:

Its also the home of focaccia, pesto and olive oil, three of my favorite things, and honestly their focaccia sandwiches may be the best thing I’ve ever eaten, so simple, Parma ham, mozzarella, arugula and tomato, all in a perfectly salted, olive oiled, crispy, soft focaccia

Alassio itself is a lovely seaside town, where everyone goes to hang out, and you rent loungers by the seaside, in the same place every year, so you get to know all your neighbors, so lounging by the sea becomes very social, something the Italians seem to be very good at.

All and all a very nice 24 hour stop, which allowed me to catch up on sleep after a busy week at Cannes!

  1. Lovely place! And the young man does look like Miles. How do you say “doppleganger” in Italian?
