Portland delights

We had a lovely drive back to Portland and with some time before our airbnb was available, had a quick stop at Muji, our favorite Japanese retailer for stationary with stores in Dublin, Portland and New York! They have a coffee shop in there run by a robot!

Miles came over to our place, in the lovely neighborhood of Sellwood, where the streets are lined with some really large and healthy trees. Later, we went to a movie “Belle Maman” at a theater we really like there, and then to dinner at Canard, a Portland favorite of ours from previous trips.

Portland is really full of amazing green spaces, and we went on a several hour hike in the Tyron Creek State Park, near Miles’s college and where we were staying. That day we had lunch in a Food Carts Pod, where there are several food trucks (more like trailers than vehicles that can independently drive around) and a nice seating area and bar that they share. We also went out to dinner twice with Miles and his roommate Charlie, and one of those times also with friends / roommates Sophia and Vinnie. Super nice group of friends, Miles!

Our last day in Portland, we did some downtown sightseeing. We went to the Portland Art Museum to see a really great Frida Kahlo exhibit, and then walked around by the Willamette River (pronounced Will am et, which is tough since there’s “Wilmette” / Will – met” north of Chicago). I thought the sign about winter sports in a window downtown was pretty funny.

We had some great brunches, first at Fat Albert’s, and then at Bertie Lou’s. Such huge portions I saved half my breakfast burrito for the trip back to Chicago, later that day! It was great seeing you, Miles, looking forward to our next trip to Portland!

    1. There was soooo much food at the dinner! Miles and Charlie took the remains home and I think ate for a week. And about Muji, I need to correct the statement above, there is a Muji in Sydney too! https://mujiaustralia.com/ Not sure if they have a barista robot though!

  1. Miles – the 70’s called. The line wasn’t real clear so I’m not sure if you and your mate we’re the guys going to jail or putting some guys in jail. Anyway, give them a call as they need to look back. Cheers Colman

  2. Portland has some impressive trees! Wondering, do you leave a tip for the coffee robot barista?
