Framing!

The builders are back and they are framing up a storm in our basement. The new spare bedroom is framed out to the right in this photo:

Spare bedroom again, with the door frame showing. It looks a bit like a cage now 🙂 sorry guests, I promise it will truly look like a bedroom by the time one of you stays in there.

How to make an inherently crooked house straight: lots of shims. Look at the 2×4 below that runs horizontally under the joists then stops to create a level ceiling.

More shims. This is going to be one level basement.

  1. That’s a matter of great debate. The carpenters want the door to remain as long as possible because it’s a lot easier to bring in materials and to get in and out. The door bugs me and I occasionally suggest that we brick it up sooner, but then the carpenters talk me out of it. I suspect it will be the last thing done…meanwhile one of the carpenters suggested we do not brick up the window on the side of the house that is going to be in the stairwell, we just cover it with plywood. We already have 2 windows like that upstairs, and I’m inclined to agree. Better yet, we should paint a mural on it!
