Probably not the biggest priority right now in the US, but if we could just get past some of the other issues occupying our minds, we might get to the problem of how to refer to December 26, which in the US doesn’t really have a name. In Ireland they call it St Stephen’s Day (referenced in the Christmas song Good King Wenceslas. I just googled the song and it’s really confusing so good luck with further reading on that!) In the UK and Australia, it’s called Boxing Day. In Australia there is cricket played all day and good for tv watching / snoozing, and also there is a yacht race from Sydney to Hobart in Tasmania that goes right past all the Eastern Suburb beaches.
Our day was spent going for a swim at Clovelly (a recurring theme, you will see!), meeting Rory’s friend Kai there, then having Colette and Colman’s friends Shona, Finn and Maggie (age 7) over to help with our Christmas Dinner leftovers. The rental house came with a trampoline which has been a big hit with the kids. Rory would like grandad to get inside the trampoline but unfortunately there is a sign on the trampoline that says “no grandads allowed inside” (which Maggie, who can read, disputed with her eyebrows but didn’t give up the story!)
