Lewis and Clark, OSU and Eugene

John rode a rental bike to the Portland airport (!) on Wednesday morning and picked up our rental car. We then drove to Lewis and Clark, a liberal arts university in Portland to look around, and were really impressed. We then drive south to Corvallis and took a tour of Oregon state university. Also impressive! We then drove to Eugene to spend the night.

We had a really lovely dinner at Grit. Lots of seasonal produce, yum!

In the morning John and I climbed Skinner’s Butte while miles read in a coffee shop.

What’s cooler than a picture made from beans?

We then went to a really fun casual restaurant called Tacovore for lunch.

The tortilla soup was excellent, as were the tacos. Then it was on to the tour of university of Oregon, home of the Ducks. Here the duck and miles are making an O for Oregon with their hands / wings.

During the tour we saw this very cool display of the periodic table of elements.

Each element is represented with a real piece of the element, except for some that have a placeholder. The tour didn’t stop there long enough to explain why, but aren’t some of them theoretical? Liam, help! After the tour, we went to the famous local Voodoo Donuts – so many crazy donuts to choose from!

Then back into the car to drive easy to Florence, where we are now. More pics on that soon!
