Grandview girls (and one guy) visit

In April 4 friends of mine from high school visited Chicago, and we had a great time! Three took the train from KC, one drive from Michigan, and we had a bonus visit from another who drive in from Michigan with his wife on Saturday. Here we are at Sabroso for brunch.

On Friday night we went for a drink at Cindy’s Rooftop (readers may remember Cindy’s from our Thanksgiving meal last year) then took the green line to the west loop.

Right off the Morgan stop on the Green Line we ran into this sidewalk donut!

The wait for Cindy’s can look very intense, especially since the place to wait tends to be for the elevator on the ground floor of the building, but the line moves pretty quickly. Some of the drinks had flowers in them, fitting for Mary Jane, who works in a garden center!

After Sabroso on Saturday (this is all out of order…) we went to a new shuffleboard place in Wicker Park. Well, first we walked up Hoyne and gazed at the mansions, then we went to the Walgreens in an old bank, especially noting the vitamin vault, THEN we went to play shuffleboard. It’s a pretty amazing setup, in a huge industrial space with about 15 shuffleboard courts in two sections. There’s a lot of entertainment while waiting for a court, like a bar, tamale truck, photo booth area complete with lighting and lots of props, and board games. I took this sign for Liam because of the time his pants went missing at the harbor beach in Sydney… but the last item is pretty funny too 🙂

Shuffleboard was really fun.

It’s kinda a flat shuffly version of cornhole. You push your disc across to the other side and get it into the highest number possible without getting the disc on a line.

Back to Cindy’s! Jen and Kathy nabbed coveted seats by the fire. The view is so nice from up there, all the better when catching up with long-time (not old!) friends! Thanks for coming to town, everyone!
