More NY!

One NY wrap up post to do! Our last morning in NY, we went out to breakfast at a very nice place in Bushwick. Only about halfway through breakfast did we notice that the fox has 3 eyes…

After breakfast we said good bye to Liam, who took an earlier flight home so that he could get ready for a camping trip he was taking right after the New York trip. Stay tuned for a blog post about his camping trip soon, right Liam? We then took the subway to the upper east side of Manhattan, with highlights being we finally figured out the extremely confusing Fulton Street station, and then I got serenaded on the subway by a guy with a guitar singing Blondie’s “One Way or Another.” He sang badly, and he dedicated the song “to the white lady with the glasses.” He even included “white lady with the glasses” throughout the song, it was really something! After that series of adventures, we arrived at the Guggenheim, where we pushed the limits of the coat check room at bit – we had all of our stuff with us that we were taking to the airport, and we needed to leave it somewhere, so we just casually went to the coat check and checked it in. The coat check staff said “whoa! you brought a lot of stuff!” But it all went fine. And I think it showed some real creative problem-solving on our part.

Here’s an installation in one of the side rooms at the Guggenheim – many pieces of candy in a room. We were encouraged to take a piece and eat it or leave it elsewhere in NY. There were photos of places where lots of people had left the candy, creating a similar art piece elsewhere.

They had a room of Constantin Brancusi sculptures. Love!

Also love the exterior!

We left for a midday walk in Central Park, across the street. The gates leading into the park are named, and we happened to walk through the Engineer’s Gate.

View across the lagoon in Central Park. I’m not sure they call it a lagoon, but in Chicago that’s what we’d call it. Beautiful!

Nice bridge!
