Smorgasburg and other Williamsburg delights

We left O’Hare the first Saturday morning of Chicago public schools spring break, and met what seemed like 400,000 families at the airport! Crazy long security lines but we got to our flight on time. Phew!

We went straight to Williamsburg, the neighborhood in Brooklyn where we’re staying. First stop: smorgasburg, a big open air market with about 75 food stands. We all chose different food (Japanese noodles or me, arepas for John and for miles: one of the most popular stands. I don’t know what his dish was called but it was a bowl of fried mashed plantains with pieces of pork on top and drizzles of sriracha mayonnaise.)

These are views from the park, the market area is on the left.

Then we had a lovely stroll around Williamsburg. It’s got a similar vibe to our own wicker park. This secret brunch place, a huge open area behind graffiti covered metal, would do well in Chicago! There’s a little slot in the metal so you can see from the sidewalk what you are missing!

Our Airbnb is great. Places in general being smaller here, we rented a one bedroom apartment and miles is sleeping in the living room. There’s a rooftop community garden which readers can imagine cndkmen approve of!

  1. The apartment where you are staying looks so nice! Great that there is a rooftop garden and gathering place.
