Windy day, seeds, Speedy and Roux

We had a really warm day on Friday but it came with some very intense wind storms. John’s flight returning from Boston was delayed several hours, and our block was cordoned off for about a day due to a downed electrical wire dangling over the street. The wire itself was hard to capture in the photo (see where the arrow is pointing in the photo below) but what is immediately obvious is all of the available parking spaces but no way to take advantage of them!

It’s seed starting time of year again! I started eggplant, two types of tomatoes, basil, marjoram and some lavendar hyssop indoors on Sunday. In the collection below, lettuce and peas are in the plan but will be sowed directly once it’s warmer outside.

We also did a lot of cooking, including another batch of heirloom beans. These are yellow eye beans from Rancho Gordo. Beautiful and delicious.
Speedy and Roux continued to bond, and we unseparated their cage so they are officially cohabitating now! There is still a bit of rumblestrutting and running in circles but they are doing very well. Of course this means that when it’s feeding time, things get a bit tense, but Miles has been very good at making sure that each has access to a carrot at the same time. Carrots have become very popular – this was an appetite that Roux brought with him from the shelter in Oak Park, where he was hanging out with a lot of bunnies. Speedy didn’t used to be so into carrots! They are only allowed one baby carrot a day due to the high sugar content and their little bodies, but it is totally their favorite time of day.

  1. I learned a new word from your blog today: rumblestrutting. Good one! Also, along with your garden layout, I like the advice: “Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things.”

  2. Cindy you are putting us all to shame with your gardening plans.
Lucky nobody injured with the fallen wire.
Nice to see Speedy and Roux at the getting to know you stage.
