Our tomato plants have needed some attention for the last few weeks, so I decided to make them priority number one this weekend. Of course I had to have a talk with these guys first to reassure them that I love them very much, but the tomatoes simply needed me more this weekend. They took it pretty well.
So here’s the deal with the tomatoes. When I planted the 6 seedlings into 3 boxes, they were so small and I was so forgetful/ unbelieving about how much they would grow, that I put the boxes way too close together. They can be seen below as seedlings in May, the three boxes next to one another in the background. By the way, that’s peas in the foreground.
Also, I only had one tomato trellis and thought I would try, again, using the round cages for the other tomatoes. This is such a mistake! Note to self, this never works! So the goal for this weekend was to spread out the tomatoes and build two more trellises for them. Here is the project after one trellis was made and one box moved over.
And here’s the completed project from a couple of angles
Now I could in theory turn all my attention back to Liam and Miles, but they’ve disappeared for the day, Miles to Six Flags Great America and Liam to the Pitchfork Music Festival 🙂
Here are a few more things happening in the garden. Nasturtiums are in bloom.
And the peas are just about ready to eat
The little white flowers are very pretty.

Full marks for your work in the garden this week. No doubt Liam and Miles will benefit from it in due course.
