Lakefront bike commute

We’ve had so much rain this summer I haven’t been riding my bike to work. I learned last summer that getting caught in the rain on a 14-mile trip is a drag so I’m pretty careful about watching the forecast! This week was really lovely though and I rode to work and back twice. We’d done some long rides in the last few weeks so it didn’t seem too hard at all. It does take me a while though, a minimum of 1 hour 15 minutes each way, even longer when I keep stopping to take photos!

On Friday morning the lake was the same color as the sky. It was really hard to make out the horizon. Also interesting was the way the land, lake horizon, and sky all were at different angles and had different curves. Here are some photos of what I saw.

The mist had cleared by the time I cycled home that afternoon.

The lake and sky were no longer a study of variations in the green-gray color spectrum!

But there was still a little mist around downtown, just enough to make the city look like it was floating on a magic carpet.

  1. Nice pics of the lake.. I like how the city skyline at that distance can make it seem like the city is really small. We gave a view of Sydney near our house that does the same (minus a pretty lake)!
