A 120+ year old house in Chicago with a full west exposure has some tough demands in terms of window treatments. Many of our windows are drafty in winter and let in too much heat in summer. Yet there are plenty of days where we want the windows open for a breeze. Also, we need light and privacy. These conflicting demands had us stumped for years but we have started making some progress, starting with wooden blinds in all of the west facing windows. Here they are in the kitchen
We can tilt them for privacy and cold / heat, and a breeze can still get through when it’s warm enough to open a window. Upstairs we got a honeycomb blind for our room and in the basement we got another one for the window by the couch. The draft there was making for some cold tv watching! So far we are very happy with all, except miles who said ‘mom, you know I don’t like change.’ 😳 We’re going to wait and decide if honeycomb blinds would also be good in the living room.
Love the blinds Cindy.
