We had a lovely visit from Anne, who was on her annual Chicago-in-February tour of duty. We had a fantastic dinner Friday night at Blackbird, including some amuse bouche from the chef to start, then celery root soup, pierogi, and scallops for appetizers, and sturgeon, venison and pork shoulder for main courses. Then macchiatos and tea with more treats from the chef for dessert. Wonderful company and food!
Saturday we met Anne downtown and first went to John’s office. Miles had some fun with the Strategic Analytics balloon.
Gotta stay connected in the advertising space (Anne was actually looking for the flash setting on her phone)
Views from John’s office
Desk art via one of John’s colleagues. I always love spotting a Hatch Show Print out in the world
This is one of my favorite Hatch Show Prints — and it’s just the tie that they used to wrap up the posters I bought when we visited their shop in Nashville several years ago.
More cool things in John’s office
After John’s office we walked over to Eataly, which is a bit of a silly name but a very cool place. It’s a huge store owned by chef Mario Batali with Italian groceries, food stands, full restaurants, gelato, cooking accessories and macchiato. We looked around and then got some pizzas. After the pizza, we had coffee and Anne treated Miles to a cookie that was about the size of his face!
All in all a great visit with Anne. Looking forward to seeing you next year!

Looks like a fun catch up! So so macchiatos fall into the same unusual coffee camp as lattes or are they more mainstream?!
I think macchiatos are less well-known here, and Anne brought them to our attention. I think that Starbucks has a drink also called a macchiato but it’s not really the same thing, which is a shot of espresso with just a small bit of milk. Do you have them in Oz?
Yup it would be a reasonably standard coffee order … Colman would sometimes get one after a meal as there’s not so much milk as in a latte/cappucino/flat white. John can compare when he comes over!
Great to see you all looking so good!
Looks like great get together and sampling of food during Ann’s annual visit to Chicago.
Nice photos from the inside and views from John’s office!
