Today was move-in day for several of the residence halls, including Liam’s, at UIUC. We loaded up the car early and got to campus a bit after 9, where move-in action was in full swing. Here’s Liam’s building (below) with a nice welcome sign out front. There were a lot of students on duty to help bring stuff in and generally greet people. When Liam walked into the room where the kids were meant to pick up their keys, all the kids cheered in greeting and welcome, it was really nice!
Liam showed his Chicago pride by hanging up a flag and vintage poster about Humboldt Park.

We took some group shots.
Then went to Black Dog, a barbecue place in Urbana, for an early lunch. After lunch we had a look around the quad (sorry, no photos of that! Maybe our correspondent now based at UIUC can send some?)
And after our campus exploration we ran into a girl moving into the same residence hall who Liam has been at school with since kindergarten. Crazy! Liam knew she was also living there but we didn’t know we’d see her today. And how wild is that, to be in their third school together, especially since none of this was neighborhood based — they went to the same grade school, then chose and got into the same high school, then same for university (including residence hall!)
Then we gave Liam some very heartfelt hugs and said bye so he could go hang out with his new roommate and fellow Allen Hall residents. We got coffees and a cake for the ride home to sweeten the sadness a bit! Miss you Liam but very excited for you too! Whoo hoo, university!

Looks like a really nice building! Good luck settling in Liam!
Really nice how new students were welcomed to the dorm!
Liam certainly has got off to a flying start in college. I hope you are all doing well! love, Phyllis
