Citizenship test: passed!

John went in for what was scheduled to be a 2-hour appointment with the Immigration and Naturalization Service this morning, and ended up passing handily in a mere 13 minutes! That even includes the brief pause before his reply to the question: “what is the national anthem?”

Other questions included “which ocean is on the west side of the US?” (not the first time one of the Kennymen have faced an ocean-related question in a high-stakes test! Liam was asked in a kindergarten placement test “what is the difference between a lake and an ocean?”) and “what happened on 9/11?” Perhaps the latter question had a dual purpose of also checking to see if respondents are fully accepting of the US system of expressing dates — a fail would be to answer with something that happened on November 9th.

Stay tuned for news in about a month for an announcement about the swearing-in ceremony!

  1. Good to have passed the citizenship test, John! Those who watch professional football and baseball have an edge on the national anthem question, so that may not be quite fair. I was wondering if you would be asked to name all the presidents in order. I can do Washington-Adams-Jefferson, but then there’s a big jumble of names until Abraham Lincoln. After Lincoln, there’s another jumble of names until Hoover. After that, it’s easy all the way to Obama. Anyway, congratulations.

  2. I enjoyed watching the vintage film and the singing of The Star Spangled Banner.

  3. Congrats John! I think Colman passed the Aussie citizenship test in 9 mins while I took 11mins… Apparently that proves he’s more Australian than me! I think it would be a bit more intimidating face to face rather than on a computer though! Looking forward to seeing how your American citizenship ceremony compares to ours!
