During an intense rainstorm tonight, a river formed in our back yard. I didn't want to get WET so I took this photo from an upstairs window, and you can't really see the full glory of this river, which even had a current that looked stronger than the Rio Grande. See the blue line I drew on the photo that shows the course and direction of the river. This river is really a tributary of the big river that our alley can become. Interesting how the river stayed in the banks created by the bricks. Any budding civil engineers our there? Feel free to offer suggestions, we are particularly keen on solutions that don't cost much and don't require us to life heavy stuff!
I'm thinking that the stone back by the alley gate should have been put in a few inches higher, then the water would be diverted to the sides where it's more absorbant because there are plants at the sides. BUT the stone is very heavy to dig up again, and I believe it was higher in the past and sunk itself down in the last year.
