Today was the last Saturday Morning Physics class for Liam out at Fermilab. We are so lucky to live within driving distance of a National Laboratory, no less one that has this really cool program for students! Liam has been going out to the class every Saturday morning for a couple of months now, and each class has a lecture on a topic (physics-related) then a tour of part of the facility. And the facility is really amazing. Fermilab takes up about 10 square miles and even has bison on the grounds! It also has a lot of art — as we learned today, its first director was an artist who even designed the main building there, Wilson Hall.
The inside of the building is also really amazing. Very impressive use of exposed concrete!
The stairs and whole structure inside is exposed concrete, with patterns. Here’s a close up.
But of course, impressive as the main building is, the class was all about the lecturers. About 50 students attended the class, and there were 5 from Liam’s high school. Here they are, with two of the lecturers. These physicists are quite renown in their fields, it was really a privilege to get to learn about physics from them!
Today’s class was a bit different than usual. Parents were invited to attend and we went to a meeting held by the man 3rd from left above, Roger Dixon. He was really interesting and so knowledgable. Meanwhile, the kids had a last lecture on “Physics and Society” from Eric Ramberg, 4th from left above. Liam said the lecture was really interesting too. All in all, great class and a huge thumbs up for Saturday Morning Physics!

How fortunate you are that Liam had access to Fermilab! It’s such an impressive facility! I also like your new banner photo of the snowy woods.
Yes you are very lucky Liam to have access such a facility and the building itself, though bare concrete, is so very impressive.
