Miles took 3 days of ski lessons with Rizzo. Rizzo is originally from Wisconsin but talks like a surfer, and he is one great ski instructor. They went up on a chair lift before lunch on the first day of lessons, and by the 3rd day they even skiied down a blue run! Miles is now one of those kids that I've seen going down steep runs, tips of skiis together to form a triangle or pizza as they call it, no poles, completely calm and in control.
See the red things strapped onto their legs? They are GPS devices and they greatly helped me sleep at night. If a kid get separated from the group the instructor can find them. They had to use the coordinates to find Liam once–due to some confusion he took a wrong turn and got separated from his group but they used the device and found him!
I wonder how long it took to locate lost skiiers before they had GPS devices?
Why do all ski & board instructors sound like surfers – it’s an international phenomenon! Those GPS things are great – everyone should have one strapped to their knees!
That’s great! Good job Miles! I think it’s funny that they call it forming a “pizza”. It sounds more fun than “snowplowing” 🙂 Sounds like everybody had a great time and enjoyed the skiing!
Once you’ve mastered the pizza you move on to the french fries! Hang around on some green runs and you’ll hear the instructors saying to the kids, ok everyone, french fries now! It sure is a lot more fun than snowplowing and whatever keeping your skis parallel is called 🙂 As for the surfer accent, it really is funny. At copper the staff has their hometowns listed on their name tag, and no matter where they are from they sound like surfers. In Australia too, Colette? That’s funny. Though maybe there they sound like Australian surfers!
