Harbour Bridge in Sydney

I think I left off the Sydney photos with our trip to the fish market. That was a really full day! After leaving the fish market, we took a taxi to the Harbour Bridge and at Colette’s suggestion walked across, stopping in the first pylon to have a good look around first. It was a great suggestion, and showed us the bridge up close, without the expense and rigor of the official “bridge climb,” which involves climbing up the ladder / steps built into the sweeping arc at the top of the bridge structure.

Sydneysiders refer to the area north of the Harbor Bridge as OTB, or Over The Bridge. Sample sentence: “We don’t see them so much since they went OTB.” It’s much how we’d describe friend’s move out of the city to the suburbs in Chicago.

After some exploring of the area OTB, we took a train back over to the CBD (Central Business District, did I spell out that acronym already?), to Darling Harbour. There we stopped for some refreshments.

Cindy, Liam and Miles at Lindt Chocolate Cafe, another excellent suggestion by Colette, who knows her chocolate! Even though it was winter, most dining is still outdoors.
Hot chocolate at Lindt Chocolate Cafe at Darling Harbour. Chocolate and milk arrive in separate vessels, you combine in a cup. Hint: start with some milk and add chocolate as desired. Delicious.

Then, later that evening, we met a bunch of Colette and Colman’s friends for dinner. We went to a real treasure of an obscure place, known for its Peking Duck. I wish I’d gotten a photo of the whole group, but only got the duck!

The duck is served on a very large lazy susan, which also holds sauce, wraps, and spring onions. You take a bit from the serving dish and assemble a little burrito like package on your own plate. Really, really good. Miles and Liam were very big fans!

  1. By the way I remember at the duck dinner, you were struck by how many people had trainers/were going to a gym… when we were at the gym the other day (with our trainer!), a guy walked by with a t-shirt on showing all of the Blue Line El stops in your area… Western, Damen, Division etc… very strange! Bet he didn’t think anyone in the gym would recognise it!
