We had a fun visit from Derek Hand in August, Derek was one of the friends I went with to New College in Florida when I first came to the states, and it had been over 20 years since I had last met him.
He was lecturing in Irish Fest in Milwaukee, the biggest Irish Fest in the world, on the topic of the Irish Novel, which he has written a book on, as part of being an Professor of English in Dublin. He was going to be coming through Chicago for a few days on his way back, but to make the most of the visit, we decided to travel to Milwaukee on Saturday to see him there.
The festival itself, was a really pleasant surprise, with great music, and Derek’s lecture was really great!
On Monday Derek travelled down to Chicago and we had a great time on Monday and Tuesday night showing him all the sights and catching up on all things Dublin!
Derek and his wife Paula below were anxiously awaiting results from the leaving certificate for their daughter Sophie, but all ended well, with Sophie getting what she was hoping for!
